McLaren Automotive has revealed its latest effort. A V6 powered hybrid supercar; named the Artura. The Artura is McLaren’s first series production High Performance Hybrid(HPH) supercar. Built in-house on a new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), specifically to handle HPH powertrains. According to Mike Flewitt, McLaren Automotive CEO; the Artura “delivers all of the performance, driver engagement and dynamic excellence for which McLaren is renowned. ”

The Artura is made up of the tried and tested cocktail of superformed aluminium and carbon fibre. A dry weight of 1395kg. The body was not the only component to undergo a weight loss regime. An all new lightweight 8 speed transmission transfers the considerable shove via McLaren’s first electronic-differential.

A brand new twin turbo 3.0L V6 churns out 585PS and 585Nm of torque whilst an E motor provides and additional 95PS and 225Nm. That’s almost 200hp/litre from the internal combustion engine. In addition with the lightweight body, the combined 680PS & 720Nm give the Artura a Class-leading power-to-weight ratio of 488PS/tonne.

All this leads to face bending acceleration. 0-100km/h is over in 3 seconds; 0 to 200km/h happens in 8.3 seconds. However, the hybrid powertrain also makes the Artura the most fuel efficient McLaren yet. Offering a claimed 50+mpg, 129g/km CO2; in combined EU WLTP. Importantly the 7.4kWh battery supports 30km electric-only range. Perfect for short silent city drives.

An interior redesign adds firstly new materials; a more driver focused cockpit and secondly new displays to bring everything up to date. Therefore the updated electronics allow over-the-air (OTA) updates and stolen vehicle tracking. Available from £185,500, the Artura is available to order now in four specifications in the UK.

Watch the online launch of the Artura below.

As an aside

With seemingly P1 like technology, the Artura seems like a real performance bargain. It would be quite interesting to see how the Artura compares to the Ferrari SF90. A sort of Supercar Trinity, providing Porsche has plans for hybrid GT3 RS. Only time will tell.
