American Formula One team Haas has been linked with Russian fertilizer producer Uralkali since the beginning of the 2021 season. The partnership has been rife with controversy since its inception. From its livery choice; which many saw as mimicking the Russian flag in the aftermath of a Russian doping scandal. To its rookie driver Nikita Mazepin and sexual assault claims. Nikita is the son of Uralkali’s CEO Dmitry Mazepin.

Given the current geopolitical situation, there have been doubts over whether the Russian Grand Prix would still take place later this year. Nikita Mazepin was quoted recently when talking to Sky, that the race would likely still take place despite sanctions against the country. However, those rumblings could soon become reality given the deterioration of the situation in Ukraine.

The situation is moving quickly and Hass reportedly removed Team boss Guenther Steiner from a scheduled press conference today. The team later issued a short statement regarding their livery.

Haas F1 Team will present its VF-22 in a plain white livery, minus Uralkali branding, for the third and final day of track running at Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya on Friday 25 February. Nikita Mazepin will drive as planned in the morning session with Mick Schumacher taking over in the afternoon. No further comment will be made at this time regarding team partner agreements.

With more sanctions aimed at Russian companies and entities in Russian President Putin’s orbit; only time will tell what will become of the Russian Grand Prix. Ultimately thought that will be of little consequence to those caught up in the conflict.
