My ‘Collecting Cars’ Wishlist

In case you are unaware, Collecting Cars is an online auction platform to buy and sell cool cars and motorcycles and it is based in the UK. They have a mouthwatering Instagram page where I frequently do my weekly window shopping. As a twenty-something-year-old living in Zimbabwe with very little to my name, all of these cool cars and bikes will remain fantasies for quite some time. One can only dream.

Anyways, on that pessimistic note, here are my Top 5 Picks.

BMW e92 M3

There is no denying the fact that Zimbabwe has quickly become a Mercedes and AMG country and less of a BMW and M country. Although there is a healthy population of ordinary BMWs, there is a serious shortage of M Sport models, and what better M car to have than one of the M3s that broke the naturally aspirated, straight 6 engine formula? In this engine bay sits a screamer of a V8 engine with 420 horsepower, catapulting you to 100km/he in about 4.5 seconds!

YES PLEASE!

Ford Focus RS

When this version debuted around 2016 it was the talk of the town and it definitely made the VW Golf R of the time sweat for a little bit as the Focus provided much of what the Golf had in a more attractive looking package. 300+ horsepower with all-wheel drive was the recipe. However whilst this was happening around the world, unfortunately here in Zim nothing, much changed. The Golf still held a monopoly as the only ultimate hot hatchback. To this day, I’m yet to even see this Focus RS in the flesh. I would really like to see what it’s capable of live and direct.

John Cooper Works GP2

I’ve had limited experience with normal Mini Coopers and I have had so much fun in them. They feel like go-karts on the road, small and agile. I cannot begin to imagine what a John Cooper Works Mini feels like, as these cars are made with track performance in mind. I would imagine that they feel even more ‘go-karty’ with even more power and agility. For now at least, I can only wonder.

Renault Clio V6

My fascination for small cars a.k.a pocket rockets is a tragic one because of one inescapable fact. We are more often than not incompatible. I currently stand at nearly 2 metres tall yet these small cars often offer very little room for my legs and this Clio is the worst culprit. The reason why its especially bad in the Clio is that you can’t really pull the seat back to create more room because that’s where the engine is. Yep, in this car it sits just behind you! If I were to drive one I bet I would be in complete agony with a smile on my face.

Okay I have two things to admit here. This last entry is actually a bike not a car (duh).  Secondly, I know very little about motorcycles but I’m in the process of fixing that.

Baby steps as they say.

To be honest, bikes to me have always looked somewhat similar to one another but this BMW is definitely different and I LOVE DIFFERENT. It looks retro and modern at the same time. It looks aggressive yet approachable. If I were a bike guy, this would definitely be an extension of my personality.

As the saying goes, “If wishes were horses, beggars would ride ” Well if the car gods can hear me, here are five horses I would love to ride so please make it so!
