2019 is coming to a close and so is the decade as a whole. With sports cars becoming an endagered species, in the sea of EVs and SUVs we hand picked a few fun cars for 2020. A slew of new models are being launched for 2020 and these are 5 coupes that we’re looking forward to. Without further a do, let’s jump right in.

2020 Toyota GR Supra

The Supra has been back for what seems like a year already. There seems to be no end to the “it’s just a BMW in a kimono” moanings but to be honest that’s neither here nor there. In the era of SUVs and EV’s, a 2 seater sports cars, however it comes is a very welcome thing. Power and torque above the claimed 335hp & 494Nm and an aftermarket scene chomping at the bit to make the MKV meet the MKIV’s legendary status. If this years SEMA is anything to go by, the Supra is going to be a very popular and exciting platform for a while yet.

2020 C8 Corvette Stingray

The mid engined Corvette has been on the minds of Corvette fans since the CERV I prototype emerged from it’s covers 60 years ago. If the Supra is the JDM hype car, the Corvette is it’s American counterpart. A starting price only a few thousand dollars above the Supra makes it a lot of car for the money. 465Hp through the rear wheels and supercar looks make it a very attractive package. Early reviews also indicate a very well sorted drivers car is on its way from Chervolet. Future Gandsport and ZR1 varients are sure to turn it up a notch & take the fight to the Europeans.

Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The GT500 is possibly the most bonkers proposition in this list. How so, i hear you ask. Well the GT500 takes the GT350R’s flat plane crank V8 and bolts a supercharger on top to make a tyre shredding 760Hp. That horsepower figure itself isn’t what makes this car bonkers, afterall Dodge Hellcats and Demons make similar power. What is crazy is that this makes the GT500, Ford’s most powerful car. Including the near half a million dollar Ford GT, in a package about a third of the price. With impeccable handling, a seven speed dual clutch transmission its likely to be the new king of muscle cars.

Polestar 1

Polestar are something like the Swedish AMG or M division. Hot-rodding more sedate Volvos for a bit more fun. Much like AMG they are branching out and creating bespoke vehicles like this, the Polestar 1. By taking Volvos handsome styling and a hybrid powertrain, Polestar have created a luxurious Swedish competitor to the likes of the Bentley Continental GT. Albeit with a turbo & supercharged 2L engine powering the front wheels and two electric motors powering the rear to provide a combined 591hp. The electric powertrain also allow the Polestar to squeeze 150km of range from it’s onboard battery.

Ferrari Roma

Ferrari’s newest GT takes aim at the likes of the Aston Martin V8 Vantage. So not quite a hard topped version of the Portofino. The Roma along with a much stiffer chassis, comes with a 19hp boost to it’s 3.8L twin turbo V8 and a race mode. Opinions on its looks have been decidedly mixed but Ferrari wanted to provide a sleaker more stylish car reminiscent of the vehicles from the 50s and 60s. With all the hidden aero and somewhat subdued colours of the launch vehicles, i think they’ve hit the mark. The real test though will be if this Roma can be a fun daily drive and fun weekend car.
